💡 How It Works

  • BMI (Body Mass Index) was developed by Belgian statistician Adolphe Quetelet in 1832 as a measure of body fat.
  • Dividing by the square of height compensates for the natural weight increase as height increases.
  • WHO classification: Under 18.5 (underweight), 18.5-24.9 (normal), 25-29.9 (overweight), 30+ (obese).
